Rukhledev to lead a record-breaking 530-member delegation of Russia to the 22nd Summer Deaflympics
Five days ago - on June 24, 2013 - there was the deadline date for all National Deaf Sports Federations to submit to the ICSD (International Committee of Sports for the Deaf) Secretariat the names of their athletes and officials, who plan to take part at the much-anticipated 22nd Summer Deaflympics, which are due to open this coming July 26th in Sofia, Bulgaria.
For the first time in the Deaflympics' 89 year-old history, the world will witness the largest ever sporting delegation at the Games: under the distinguished leadership of Dr. Valery Rukhledev, the President of the Russian Committee of Deaf Sports, Russia will send its record-breaking 530-member delegation to the Games! This official delegation will include 192 male and 129 female athletes as well as 209- member supporting staff, i.e., coaches, trainers, doctors, interpreters, etc.). The Russians will field teams in all 19 sports, which will be contested at the Games.
In addition, thanks to Dr. Rukhledev's enormous esteem among the governmental, sports and Olympic authorities in his home country and his successful lobbying efforts and diplomacy, the Government of the Russian Federation has decided to award its own 22nd Summer Deaflympics medal-winning athletes with the following lucrative monetary incentive bonuses:
An athlete winning a gold medal will receive the bonus of 100,000.00 Euros, silver medal – 60,000.00 Euros, while the winner of the bronze medal will get 40,000.00 Euros.
By the way, Dr. Rukhledev is a leading candidate for the elective position of the President of the ICSD. The elections for the ICSD President are scheduled to take place at the 44th ICSD Congress to be held in Sofia on July 23-25, 2013.
